Horsecross Arts (Scottish Charity SCO22400) grew out of Perth Repertory Theatre and was formed in 2005 to take over the running of Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall, Scotland’s then newest concert hall.
We have two wonderful, contrasting venues – our historic Edwardian theatre with its classic proscenium arch and our state-of-the-art concert hall with one of the finest acoustics in Europe, which, over the past decade, has become the venue of choice for artists and musicians in Scotland and the UK.
Our mission is to create a buzz through our adventurous cultural programming of drama, music, dance, comedy, film and new-media art. We have an internationally respected team of creative directors who pursue a unique collaborative programming approach. We offer emerging and established artists locally nationally and internationally opportunities to perform, present and create, to pursue fresh ideas, collaborate and find new audiences for their work.
Working with more than 20,000 people across the wider Perthshire community every year, our dynamic Creative Learning team has an excellent track record for delivering engaging and accessible activities for people of all ages and from all walks of life. From 10 years’ experience we know that our community, education and outreach projects can improve life chances, health and wellbeing, integrate communities and open doors to achievement.
Conferences & Events
As a conference and event destination our venues provide a uniquely inspiring setting. With a friendly, professional team to assist with every need we have developed an enviable reputation for accommodating a variety of occasions from company AGMs to school careers fairs, exhibitions to staff training sessions. We also host many of Scotland’s major political parties annual conferences.
From audience attendance to community engagement, we welcome more than 400,000 people through our doors every year providing a real cultural, educational, social and economic boost for Perthshire. In the last 10 years we have won more than 30 awards, received rave reviews and garned mass media attention. We help Perth prosper by placing it firmly in the spotlight as the perfect place to live, work, learn, play and invest!
Planning for the future
Work is scheduled to start early 2016 on a transformational restoration and redevelopment of Perth Theatre. Our visionary £16.6 million capital project, right at the heart of regeneration plans for Perth city centre, will affirm Perth’s place as a cultural centre in Scotland and provide the people of Perth with another first-class creative facility right in the heart of the city. Working with Richard Murphy Architects, winners of 20 Royal Institute of British Architects awards, we have created designs that will:
Restore Perth’s historic B-listed Edwardian auditorium to its former glory
Build a new 200-seat capacity Studio Theatre for small to mid-scale music and drama performances and community hire
Provide new state of the art, accessible and fully equipped creative learning spaces
Improve access throughout the building and provide level access with a lift to reach all floors
“At Horsecross, we passionately believe that the arts can transform lives. Over the last decade we have developed an enviable reputation for artistic excellence, innovative creative learning and business tourism. Our two wonderful yet contrasting venues put Perth on the map and our activities make a significant contribution to the local economy and help position Perth as a vibrant and dynamic city.” Louisa Evans, Head of Development.
