With ambitions to place itself firmly at the forefront of clean energy and the circular economy, Perth and the wider region has set its sights on addressing climate change by harnessing its abundant natural resources.
Some 150 enterprises in this sector are located in our area including Binn Group, Kilmac, McDermott and the headquarters of FTSE 100 company, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE).
This already solid reputation for excellence in low carbon energy has led to organic growth in the sector and in turn, a network of businesses has grown to include renewable energies, local energy systems, low carbon transport and waste management.
Alongside this, businesses in the area have developed a robust supply chain of onshore wind and hydro energy, and are now supporting the growing development of offshore wind energy along the East Coast of Scotland. Moreover, the area has particular expertise in local and small scale renewables such as solar and biomass, and alternative energy systems.
By prioritising the growth and development of these world-class companies, alongside the development of forward-thinking projects such as Perth-SEN (Smart Energy Network), Perth West, Binn Eco Park and the Electric A9, Perth is well-placed to lead the renewable sector into the future.
